We're in the midst of summer over here and all I can think about is where are we going next?! Summer is my favorite travel season because with a little good weather the possibilities are endless. Rooftop bars have the best views, festivals (particularly with are & wine) are in full swing and my favorite, road trips up the coast are always a good idea especially if some 'glamping' is in order. A summer getaway doesn't have to be a big 2-week thing either. 3 or 4 days will definitely do you some good. They say that on a trip that is longer than a week you tend to only remember a few really awesome things and the rest is a (fun) blur. So don't fret, you'll still have some amazing memories and enough time to recharge from the everyday hustle and bustle whether your trip is 3 days or 3 weeks.
I also had a little chat with one of our stockists, Corrie Sid, owner of The Captiola Hotel. She is immersed in the world of travel being located right in the heart of the Capitola Village. I asked her for some travel advice she dishes out over at the hotel and here's what she had to say; "Traveling for work is one thing, but going on vacation is a choice! Don't go to Greece if you are allergic or do not eat fish...what the heck are you going to eat? Don't go to Ecuador if you can't handle hot, humid weather...you will hate it! Don't go to Miami if you want a peaceful, relaxing beach vacation....the night life is anything but chill! Instead, choose a destination that you are dying to visit because it seems like your kind of place or because it is so different from your home that you are fascinated by it." And her number one piece of advice (that I love because we are fiercely local in these parts) is to "Get Local! Wherever you are, embrace it in any way you can. Eat where the locals eat, stay in small establishments that are family run, shop in stores that carry local crafts or goods. Talk to folks who live there and ask them where to go and what to do. Most people are very proud of where they live and will jump at the chance to tell you all about it. You can visit Corrie and her team year round at the Capitola Hotel, and when you're there, take a peek at their beautifully remodeled guest rooms stocked full of amenities from Hip & Chick!
